Scattering theory, spring 2008
LecturerProf. Lassi Päivärinta
Periods III and IV on Wednesdays 12:00-14:00, room B322. The first lecture is on 16th Jan. The course continues from the fall semester.
No lecture on March 5th (lecture break).
The course will be based on the book of L. Hörmander, Analysis of Linear Partial Differential Operators II, Chapter XIV (Scattering theory). Scattering theory may be understood as spectral theory for Schrödinger operators. The course will begin with an introduction to spectral theory for unbounded self-adjoint operators. The prerequisites are Real analysis 1, Functional analysis and rudiments of Fourier analysis and distribution theory. The course may be taken for credit (5 opintopiste per semester) by doing exercises.
The course notes will be posted here in pdf form.
Lectures 1 and 2 (Wed 12.09.2007 and Wed 19.09.2007)

The exercises will be here in pdf form. They should be returned by Friday the following week to Mikko Salo by email, to the box in the mail room C334, or at the office B414. For questions or hints please contact Mikko.
