Directions
Jyväskylä may be reached by flying either to Helsinki-Vantaa airport or to Tampere Airport .
Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Jyväskylä:
From the Helsinki-Vantaa airport you can either travel to Tikkurila railway station (located in Vantaa) or the central railway station (located at the centre of Helsinki) by either train (Ring Rail Line, P/I trains) or bus. The timetables and routes can be found here. You can also use the interactive Helsinki Regional Transport journey planner. You can purchase a single ticket from a ticket machine, R-kiosk, bus driver, or on your mobile phone (HSL Mobile ticket app). You should find all relevant information at https://www.hsl.fi/en.
A cheap and fast way to get to Jyvaskyla is as follows:
1. Take the P-train to Tikkurila railway station - you can find the timetable and departure platform from journey planner (or the printable pdf, which is a slightly more cryptic. The right column on first page is the timetable for Helsinki-Tikkurila-Airport, and the left column on second page is Airport-Tikkurila-Helsinki). The Tikkurila connection is fastest, but if you like, you can also go to the Helsinki central railway station instead (take P- or I-train or a bus from airport).
2. Take a train from Tikkurila or Helsinki to Jyvaskyla (3-4 h). Here is the train timetable.
3. From Jyvaskyla railway station to the Alba hotel is a pleasant walk along the lakeshore (1.8 km): see blue path in the map. You can also take a cab from the railway station to the hotel. See the interactive Google Map (below) for the location of the physics department.
From Helsinki-Vantaa airport it is also be possible to fly to Jyväskylä. If you do so, we advise to take a cab from Jyväskylä airport to the Alba hotel. It costs approximately 50 euros.
Tampere-Pirkkala airport to Jyväskylä
1. Take a bus to the Tampere railway station. Here you can find general information and the timetables for buses in here.
2. Take a train from Tampere to Jyvaskyla (about 2 h). The train timetable is here.
3. From Jyvaskyla railway station to hotel Alba see above.
