Density Functional Theory
In density-functional theory all basic observables of a system are described as functionals
of the electron density. That this is possible is guaranteed by the Hohenberg-Kohn theorem
for stationary systems and the Runge-Gross theorem for time-dependent systems.
These theorems establish a one-to-one correspondence between external potentials
and densities.
