How can we think of systems development
Representations can be either prescriptive or descriptive
Representations can involve:
- people-to-people communications
- people-to-computers communications
- (computer-to-computer communications)
Serve several purposes:
- means of communication
- analysis,
- understanding,
- documentation, and
- prediction
- e.g. we can not analyze with models other than what is represented, or we can not generate code if the required structures are not yet modeled
