Technological measures and FLOSS
- Accessing protected content with any program or other means
not expressly authorized becomes illegal
- Distributing &c of such also illegal (not private possession though)
- Free video players, programs for playing copy-protected "CDs" &c
- What if same technology protects legal rights (copying of protected
works) and others (area codes, non-copyrighted works)?
Threats:
- Can't use FLOSS for accessing (increasing) network
distribution of copyrighted works
- Do-it-yourself digibox, HD recorder &c illegal
- Developing and studying cryptography and other similar technologies
openly increasingly difficult, even for unrelated purposes
- Privacy: you can't know what your computer tells about you -
no right to read anonymously
