Contents: Present and future mobile communication systems, specially
GSM-system. Structure of GSM-network. Signaling in GSM-network. Propagation
path loss prediction models for cellular networks. Design of cellular networks. WLAN. Bluetooth.
Objective of the course: After the course the student has a good
basic knowledge of GSM technology and of the systems evolving from it.
Also, the student will get a basic knowledge of the design of cellular networks and understand
the special requirements, which result from the mobile radio environment,
affecting the specification of the GSM system.
Prerequisities: Some knowledge about data networks and telecommunication networks.
Completion mode: Exam and exercises. The Exam has 4 problems and all exams have english (and finnish) questions.
Evaluation of the course: Exam (max 24 points) + Exercises (max 6 points), as shown in the table below.
