When I got Redi I wanted a dog who would activate me. I have a tendency to forget to go out. The dog was supposed to be active so that I'd have some hobbies with him. I got everything I "ordered" and a lot more. :-)

For the first few years I thought that Redi was very energetic but later on I've learned I was wrong. I don't think he's at all more active than Tollers in general, either that or he's just learned to behave really well in certain situations. Ever since he was a pup he has been a calm traveller in car and train but in many other situations his energy seemed endless. However, he adapted himself very well to the time when I was expecting Esa and at least for the last month Redi's walks consisted of about half an hour of waddling. In addition, he's been sweet with the small baby as well as the energetic toddler.

Redi's been a great "trial version" for me: my first dog who is always ready to do something but who doesn't make hobbies too easy. ;-) He is so fast and in many cases so intense that I've really had to think how I train, move, command. In agility I should be composed and straightforward enough so that I don't fumble and in doing so make the dog go to all the wrong directions, in retrieving we should learn to play the same tune so that it would be rewarding enough to return the object to me, in obedience we'll be having the same retrieving problems (how to keep the dumbbell neat). Tracking we've no longer been doing because of lack of time and training partner. However, at home our dog is quite calm, though it's imperative to bark at the mailman and the doorbell. ;-)
