Jyväskylä
Finland, Europe
Lecturer.
Master of Economic Sciences.
Age 32. Single.
I was born in July 1962 in a small town
called Suonenjoki in eastern Finland. I grew up there
with my parents and a younger brother. Suonenjoki has
nine thousand inhabitants and its economy is based on
agriculture, sawmill and metal industry. Suonenjoki is
famous for one of its farm products, strawberries.
After high school I studied Information Systems and
Business Administration. In 1986 I graduated with a
Master of Economic Sciences degree. In 1991 I did my
teacher training which qualified me to have an office for
example in a commercial college. Since 1993 I have been
a postgraduate student in Information Systems. My special
interests in these studies have been hypermedia in
education and the collaborative use of computers.
My main profession has been working as a teacher of
Information Systems almost ten years. Most of that time
I have been a teacher at
the University of Jyväskylä
. In
1992 I was elected a lecturer in Information Systems at
Mikkeli Polytechnic's Institute of Business. Additionally
I have worked for the Continuing Education Centre at the
University of Jyväskylä and some other adult education
institutes. Last mentioned responsibilities have been
important, because they have created necessary
connections between the university life and real life
outside the university.
Sometimes I have more free time, sometimes less. I am
interested in sports in different forms. I play tennis
and squash regularly. I am also interested in politics,
both domestic and international, and I usually spend much
time reading newspapers and watching TV-programs
concerning politics and economy.
