N. Nahar's research expertise is

their efforts of the international transfer of high and complex technology
and management.

international technology transfer process.

- Software technology transfer from both domestic and
international perspectives.
- Diffusion of software technology innovations and
other high-tech innovations in both domestic and global contexts.
- Global e-business, global electronic commerce, and
global information systems implementation.

- The development process of the technology package
through the global e-supply chain. Various advanced ITs that can improve
performance of the e-supply chains of a variety of organizations.
- ITs in the globalization of enterprises from various
sectors, including the computer software and hardware enterprises. I am
analyzing, developing frameworks to this end and suggesting strategies to
implement in companies.

Research Grants
N Nahar has derived funds for many of her Ph.D. and M.Sc.
students’ theses as well as for her research that include the following:
- N Nahar's Ph.D. student N. Samoilenko, under her
supervision, developed a proposal titled “Knowledge Management in Embedded
Software and Systems Development in Offshore Outsourcing: A Cross-Industry
Perspective”. It was submitted to COMAS. COMAS fund was granted to her from
Jan 2012 to Dec 2012.
- Her Ph.D. student P. Kumar Jha, under her
supervision, developed a proposal titled “ERP System Evaluation Criteria and
Relevance of Open Source in Small and Medium Sized Organizations: A
Cross-case Study based on the Perspectives of Developed and Developing
Countries”. It was submitted to COMAS. COMAS fund was granted to him from
Sep 2011 to Feb 2012.
- Her M.Sc. student, G. Adhikari, under her
supervision, developed a proposal in Knowledge Management for a company
called “D2hawkeye Services” in Nepal in 2010. Fund was granted to him for a
period of 6 months in 2011, for the completion of his Master’s thesis.
- Her PhD student P.E. Ifinedo, under her
supervision, developed a proposal titled “Towards ERP Systems
Effectiveness in Organizations: An Empirical Study involving Private
Organizations in Finland and Estonia”. It was submitted to COMAS Board.
Fund was granted to him for the completion of his doctoral dissertation.
- Her PhD student A. Yalaho, under her supervision,
developed a proposal titled “Software Production through IT-Supported
International Outsourcing: A Multi-site Case Study”. It was submitted to
COMAS Board. Fund was granted to him.
- Her PhD student A. Ojala, under her
supervision, developed a proposal titled “Establishment of Software
Enterprises in Japan through IT-support: A Cross-case Analysis”. It was
submitted to Jenny and Antti Wihuri’s Foundation and he obtained fund in
2004. He also applied for funding to Finnish Cultural Foundation on the same
proposal and fund was granted to him from 2005 to 2007.

Her Masters student J. Sinkkonen,
under her supervision, developed a proposal titled “Challenges in

It was submitted to a financial bank. Fund was granted to him for the completion of
his Masters thesis in 2002.

Hantro Products Oy. Fund was granted to him for the completion of his

N Nahar received COMAS Research Fellowship from July 1997
to December 2000 at the University of Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä, Finland.

project entitled “Business-to-Business and Business-to-Consumer Global

Research Projects Management
Global e-commerce research project at
Tallinn Technical University
N. Nahar has been managing global e-commerce (company level) research project
since 1994 and continuing. She has been investigating business-to-business and business-to-consumer global e-commerce. Already she has published several papers based on this research project (see the publication list).
Her responsibilities included:
- Preparation of research proposals
- Preparation of research study budgets
- Identification of research tasks and allocating the
tasks to research team participants
- Development and adherence to project schedules
- Development of research methodology for the research project
- Coordination and implementation of mechanisms for empirical data collection - the data collection spread over several countries such as, Estonia, Finland, Germany, the USA, and
Bangladesh
- Development of the data analysis techniques for the research project
- Directing and leading a multicultural research team
- Controlling the research project
- Negotiating and problem solving
- Preparation
of research papers; presenting and publishing them in various leading
international scientific forums.
IT-supported international technology transfer project
at the University of Jyväskylä
N. Nahar has been managing IT-supported technology transfer research project since
1992 and continuing. She has been investigating a variety of issues related to IT-supported international technology transfer and has already published many papers based on this research project (see the publication list).
In this research project,
she has (and had) responsibilities similar to global e-commerce project.
The empirical data collection spread over Finland, Hungary, Thailand, Malaysia, India,
Bangladesh, and the USA.
Offshore Outsourcing of Software Development through
Globally Distributed Teams Situated in Many Countries at the University of Jyväskylä
N. Nahar has been managing
this research project since 2000 and continuing. In this research project,
she has (and had) responsibilities similar to global e-commerce project
(see above). The empirical data collection spread over Finland, India, Russia,
Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the USA. For published papers based on this research, see the

Administrative and Other Professional Duties Performed
Developing
academic program: She was engaged in developing
the software business program at the University of Jyväskylä. She developed the
syllabi for the courses she taught. She gave inputs to other subjects that were
belong to software business program.
Other demanding
duties in the University:
Issues related to student admission, establishing
exchange programs with foreign universities, promotion strategies about the
a) software business program and b) mobile technology and business, teaching strategies, and teaching policies are
discussed and fixed in meetings in which she participates and involves actively.
She has been participating in locating research fund sources,
analyzing the requirements of these research fund sources, preparing preliminary
research proposals, finalizing research proposals, making presentations,
performing progress reports for the research projects, etc.
Other Activities
N. Nahar has been reviewing scientific papers
(e.g. EJOR, JGITM, IJIIM, HICSS,
PICMET) and
theses for the last
several years. She is regularly invited to review articles and theses in the IS field.
She is also supporting Web research community development, contributing to related Internet discussion groups, and collaborating with members of different academic societies.
