Miikka Pyykkönen
Miikka Pyykkönen (PhD) has worked at the department of social sciences and philosophy in University of Jyväskylä Finland since 2000. First as a PhD researcher in the unit of Sociology and since Spring 2006 as a senior lecturer in the unit of Cultural policy. His PhD research (finished in June 2007) deals with the immigrant associations in two Finnish cities, Jyväskylä and Tampere. At the moment he works as a research fellow in research projects called “Capabilities, Institutions and Power in Developed Societies” and "Changing Civil Society: Multiculturalism, young people and the Finnish civic culture" funded by Academy of Finland. His present research concerns the history of governance of the Sami and the Roma in Finland, and the participation and activation of the multicultural youth in the Finnish civil society. In Spring 2006 Pyykkönen visited University of Iceland (Department of Sociology) as visiting lecturer through Erasmus teacher exchange program. In Spring 2009 he was two weeks in Umeå University (Sweden) through Erasmus teacher exchange. He has also performed two teacher exchanges in Argentina (University of del Salvador and University of Fasta) in May-June 2007 and Autumn 2009. His main areas of interest are Foucauldian analytics of power, ethnic/cultural identity, multiculturalism, cultural policy, third sector, immigration, and indigenous people. Pyykkönen has published three scientific monographs, 20 articles and two co-edited books in Finnish. Seven scientific articles and eight research papers of his are published in international referee-journals and conference proceedings.
