Aposematism research team

Aposematism is an antipredator strategy where a defended (toxic, distasteful etc.) species advertises its unprofitability as prey to potential predators via warning signals such as bright colours. We are interested in the selection pressures acting on aposematic prey; the initial evolution of aposematism, optimal signalling, trade-offs in signal expression and also Batesian (harmless prey imitates aposematic) and Müllerian (aposematic imitates aposematic) mimicry. Our research is funded by the Academy of Finland under the Centre of Excellence programme.

For the summer of 2009 we have master's projects (PDF) available!
