Process modelling languages

• A process modelling language (PML)

  • A formalism capable to represent processes
  • Enables a limited representation of process and therefore is suitable only to some process modelling efforts
  • Different modelling objectives are better achieved using different languages

• The usefulness of a language is dependent on

  • the context, purpose and the goals and objectives given for a process model,
  • the extent to which it provides constructs for representing and reasoning about various aspects of a process, and
  • the degree to which its features are understood and used
