Evaluation criteria
3) Are system descriptions valid?
- The metamodel must help to validate the system descriptions in relation to IS users' or designers' desires and needs. This requirement is partly overlapping with the consistency criterion.
- Validity deals mostly with the semantic adequacy, whereas consistency focuses mainly on the syntactic properties of the models. Therefore, exploring the metamodel alone can not assess validity.
4) Are concepts well-defined?
- This requirement is satisfied only partly in most development methods, because they are mostly defined informally, thus providing high degrees of freedom in interpreting the modeling results.
- In order to use the method fully in a CASE tool its structure and behavior must be well-defined, i.e. formalized.
