I am professor of history at the
department of history and ethnology at University of Jyväskylä.
I am also Editor-in-Chief in Scandinavian Journal of History.
My main research interests include business history (shipping, forestry, and media industries),
industrial evolution, and institutional economics. I am especially interested in the role
played by the information in economic activity over a long time span.
I am leading an interdisciplinary research group "Organisational Evolution and Dynamics"
(former Business History Group) at the University of Jyväskylä. By combining
empirical material, different theoretical starting points and different methodologies
the group strives to deeper understanding on organizations.
The time period of my research is from the early modern period up to our days.
From these pages you will find my CV and list of publications (updated IV/2006),
together with other information, including datasets compiled by Jari Ojala and Juha-Antti Lamberg
on global forestry industries.
